Lilly Connection to the Flippen Family - Page 2
(sent by Lou Poole)

A deed dated 6 Nov 1777 is the last record that names Edmund Lilly that has been found where he appears to have still been alive.  In fact, Elizabeth Flippen's will is the last record that explicitly names Anne Lille / Lilly.  The will of John Lilly (see below) does explictly refer to his mother (though not by name), so if Anne Flippen was Edmund Lilly's wife, she was apparently still alive in 1759.

Identifying the children of Edmund Lilly and and his postulated wife, Anne Flippen, is an equally elusive task.  No will or estate papers has / have been found for Edmund Lilly.  No deed record has been found where it explicitly refers to a son or a daughter of Edmund Lilly.  The 1759 will of John Lilly of Albemarle County, VA, however, does list Edmund Lilly as his father, and his brother as William and his sister as Mary.  From associations, geographical proximity, and other circumstantial evidence at least a partial list of the children of Edmund Lilly (and Anne Flippen?) can be inferred:

1.  John Lilly; d. 1759 ["will in Albemarle Co., Va."] (1)
2.  Edmund Lilly; b. ca. 1728, in Virginia (2) ;  d. after 1815 in Montgomery Co., N.C.;
m. (1) Sarah Dumas 1750 in Louisa County, Va.; (2) Mary / Sarah Lightfoot ca.
1760; (3) Elizabeth Billingsly before 1807
3.  Armiger Lilly; b. ca. 1730-1735d. ca. 1805 in Fluvanna Co., Va.; m. Elizabeth ____
in 1751  (3) (4)
4.  Thomas Lilly; m. Mary Smith 26 Dec 1759 (5) / Susannah Smith 21 Nov 1764 (6) (7)
[Comment:  There is obvious confusion about who Thomas Lilly married; both marriages,
above, are recorded in the Douglas Register.  Were these sisters, or was one of the entries an
error?  Four children are listed in the Douglas Register as children of Thomas and Susannah
Smith, the first, Edmond, born 28 Oct 1760. (8)  From this entry alone, it would appear that
"Mary" was in reality "Susannah" or perhaps "Mary Susannah."  But how to account for the
second marriage date?  That might be explained by their second child who was born on
21 Nov 1764 (9) the same date as the second marriage above!  Thus, it appears that Rev.
Douglas may have back-entered some of entries, and in the process confused the birth date
with the marriage date.]
5.  William Lilly; m. 1) Elizabeth Pollet bef. 1764 (10) (11) , 2) Adediah ____ bef. 1778 (12)
[lived in Albemarle & Amherst Counties]
6.  Mary Lilly; m. John Shepard 9 Jun 1761 (13)
7.  Robert Lilly; m. Mary Frances Moody (14) [moved to West Virginia in the early 1800s]
